The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) provides the public with a general right to access information.

How to make a Freedom of Information request

A request for information must be made in writing, and the requester must give their full name and address, which can be an email address.

The request must be for information that the authority already holds, authorities are not required to create information or give opinions. The authority does not need to supply information that is already available to the public.

To request information under the Freedom of Information Act, first check the information on this website which may have the information you require.

If you cannot find it, please email: westherts.foi@nhs.net

Charges

For the most part, we will charge you only for hard copies or copying onto media (e.g. memory stick). Some information is available free, but there may be a charge for some.

The charges, which vary according to how the information is made available, are as follows:

  • Via the Trust's web site – free of charge (any charges for personal printing costs and internet access would have to be met by the individual).
  • For those without internet access, a single print out, as on the website, would be available by post from the Freedom of Information Manager.
  • Requests for multiple printouts, or for archived copies of documents that are no longer accessible or available on the website, may attract a charge for the retrieval, photocopying, postage etc. We will let you know the cost and charges that will have to be paid in advance. We will not provide printouts of other organisation’s websites.
  • E-mail will be free of charge unless it says otherwise.
  • The cost for single sided copies will be 5p per sheet, plus postage and packaging up to a maximum of £60 per document. These charges will be reviewed regularly.
