To make your start with us as smooth as possible, there are a number of things for you to do before your first day.

Please ensure you have completed and returned all the information required in your starter pack along with your contract of employment before your first day.

All staff are required to complete a number of mandatory e-learning training modules before their start date. The number of modules you are required to complete will depend on whether you are joining as a clinical or non-clinical member of staff.

As soon as you receive your offer of employment, our Learning and Development team will create an account for you on our training system called ACORN. You will be sent your log in details within a week of your job offer.

Please note, for security reasons, you will need to respond to the initial email before being sent your log in details. Please check your junk/spam folders if you haven’t received an email from us.

If you have any questions regarding the ACORN or mandatory training, please contact our Learning and Development team on westherts.training@nhs.net.

I.T. network logins and email addresses will be sent to you by our recruitment team before you start .

IMPORTANT: If you already have, or previously had, an NHS email account ending ‘@nhs.net’, you will need to contact the IT team at your previous organisation to request this address is transferred and you are marked as a leaver. Once this step has taken place, please contact our IT helpdesk on whhtservicedesk@atos-service.net or 0300 303 0690 and request to add your email account to West Herts as a joiner.

We are not able to issue you a new email account if you already have an active address from a previous trust. Please make sure to start this process as soon as you can.

To register for a car park e-permit, please visit the staff permit portal.

You will be asked for your payroll number when completing the application, please enter the word “NEW”.

There are two types of e-permit:

  • Standard (permission to park at all our sites).
  • Essential Red (same as a standard e-permit, but with the addition of Watford General Hospital’s Helen Donald underground car park (under the oral and maxillofacial building)/

Everyone is eligible to register for a standard e-permit. Essential Red permits are restricted to operational consultants and directors.

Our Occupational Health service is designed to help promote, maintain, and protect the health and wellbeing of all staff throughout their working life at West Herts.

You will receive a health questionnaire to complete before your start date and will have the opportunity speak to one of our occupational health advisors, in relation to workplace adjustments and immunisation requirements.
