What to expect from a visit to ACU
If you have been referred by A&E, your GP, or asked to return following a recent hospital discharge for further review, please read the following information carefully.
We do not operate on set appointment times. Patients are generally seen in the order they arrive or based on clinical urgency. As multiple clinics run within the unit, you may notice other patients being called in before you—this is due to the specific clinic or pathway they are attending.
The overall process can take approximately 2 to 6 hours, depending on factors such as waiting for blood test results, clinical imaging, or other investigations. Please be aware that each patient’s journey will differ depending on the reason for their attendance.
On arrival: Please check in at reception.
A healthcare professional will speak to you, take your observations, and may carry out tests such as blood samples or an ECG. You will then wait to be reviewed by a doctor or nurse specialist.
Before leaving: Kindly inform the receptionist so you can be discharged from the system.
