Biography

Dr Malcolme-Lawes is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, trained in all aspects of general cardiology, with a major subspecialist interest in arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders) and implantable cardiac devices. She performs catheter ablation for all arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. She is also a fully accredited cardiac device specialist, who implants pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices, including subcutaneous ICDs and conduction system pacing.

Dr Malcolme-Lawes graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School, having already received an intercalated BSc in Anatomical Sciences. She undertook postgraduate training in the Royal Free Hospital, East Sussex NHS Trust, West Herts NHS Trust and Imperial College London.

She is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and has a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology, from Imperial College London. Her research into the role of the cardiac autonomic nervous system in atrial fibrillation resulted in multiple high impact factor publications and ongoing major clinical trials in the field at Imperial College. She continues as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London contributing to research studies investigating ablation of the ganglionated plexi to treat AF, as well as participating in major multicentre RCTs of conduction system pacing.
