Our mortuaries at Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital care for deceased patients before they are released from hospital.

Mortuaries provides safe, secure, hygienic facilities to help reduce degeneration of the tissues that cause decomposition.

The mortuary at Hemel Hempstead Hospital provides care of the deceased, post mortem facilities, viewings and formal identifications facilities and forensic services to the police. It’s used by the coroner for admittance and care of community deaths.

The mortuary at Watford General Hospital provides care of the deceased and viewings. Deceased patients who require a post mortem will be transferred to the Hemel mortuary.
There are no mortuary facilities at St Albans City Hospital. Any deaths occurring here are brought directly to Hemel mortuary.

Our mortuaries are staffed Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm.
