Imaging techniques and methods

• X-ray - an X-ray is a quick and painless procedure commonly used to produce images of the inside of the body.
• MRI scan - Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.
• CT scan - A computed tomography (CT) scan is a test that takes detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It's usually used to diagnose conditions or check how well treatment is working.
• Ultrasound scan - An ultrasound scan, sometimes called a sonogram, is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body.
• Breast screening (mammogram) - Breast screening uses x-rays, called mammograms, to look for cancers that are too small to see or feel.
• Fluoroscopy - Fluoroscopy is a technique that uses a range of dyes to provide real time moving images of internal organs or joints. It’s useful for seeing dynamic bodily functions, such as the swallowing action. 
• Nuclear Medicine – A nuclear medicine scan usually involves a small injection of a special radioactive tracer followed by a series of images taken using a special scanner. The scanner usually moves around while you lie still on a special bench. 
• SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) - A SPECT scan looks at the blood flow of the brain. This involves injecting a substance through a cannula in the hand called an isotope that will travel to the brain and allows us to see if there are any blood flow changes during a seizure.
• Interventional Radiology - Interventional Radiology procedures usually involve guiding a needle into the body using ultrasound or CT and accessing a particular organ (liver, kidney, stomach etc) or a vessel (artery or vein), then guiding a wire and catheter through the needle into that area. Using a real-time x-ray camera, the wire and catheter can then be guided through the body to perform whatever procedure is required.
